Graphic Designer
Part-time graphic design position responsible for the design and preparation of publications, reports and informational materials for printing and web/email distribution. Paid on an hourly basis based on experience. Must work on-site at the agency 2-3 days a week, with some scheduling flexibility.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Graphics Designer designs and formats information prepared by the agency into printed publications, webpages and other electronic media. This work ranges from assisting in conceptual development of publications, through design and layout, to the preparation of final files for final printing or electronic distibution. Specific responsibilities are:
• Graphic design of publications, reports, brochures and other informational materials in print and/or electronic formats. This includes preparation of regular newsletters and a twice yearly magazine on deadline.
• Consulting with staff in developing publications and preparation of plans for their completion
• Developing print specifications and soliciting quotes from printers and other consultants, as required
• Scheduling of projects and workload to insure timely completion
• Working with printers on pre-press issues, preparing files and conducting press checks.
• Working with IT staff on the programming of webpages and/or distribution of products in electronic formats.
• Assistance in the preparation of graphics for multi-media presentations.
• Assistance in arranging photo shoots and overseeing photographers.
• Assistance in the development of video products
• Maintaining a well-organized photo library
• Maintenance of a professional computer graphics system with up-to-date software and well-organized files
• Assistance in assigning and overseeing the work of a graphic arts intern
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Four years experience in the field of graphic design for both print and electronic media.
• Demonstrated creativity and skill in graphic design and knowledge of the preparation of print/electronic publications.
• Experience in preparing magazine-length publications.
• Proficiency in the use of Macintosh computer graphics systems and familiarity with Windows-based systems.
• Proficiency in the use of standard graphics software: Quark, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver (familiarity with InDesign a plus).
• Ability to learn addition software as required.
• Basic knowledge website design, including web formats and programming conventions.
