Principal Planner, Capital Programming: The NJTPA seeks professional for the development and maintenance of the Transportation Improvement Program (a four-year schedule of funding for transportation projects and programs – including prioritization, integration of land use and other related areas). Requires excellent analytical, writing, and communications skills; also the ability to multi-task and use mapping and database software. Requirements: master’s degree with at least three years relevant experience in planning (additional experience may be substituted for master's). Excellent benefits package.

Staff Transportation Engineer - New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC) : The NJMC is a state regulatory agency responsible for the land use management for a 32-square mile area covering portions of 14 municipalities in northern New Jersey.

The NJMC seeks motivated candidates for the position of Transportation Engineer to assist with initiatives of the Commission, including the implementation of the recently adopted Meadowlands District Transportation Plan.  Duties and responsibilities include roadway, intersection, and signal engineering and conceptual design; signal warrants; transportation modeling; site inspections; construction cost estimation of transportation projects; technical reviews of traffic and transportation plans and reports; and general engineering support.  Proficiency in AutoCAD is required, as well as a knowledge of ITE, AASHTO, and MUTCD traffic engineering publications.  Experience using HCS, Synchro, and TransCAD are preferred.

Qualified candidates must have a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or Transportation Planning with a minimum of 1 to 5 years of progressive transportation experience.  P.E. track (E.I.T. certification) is required.  Applicants must be self-motivated and possess strong verbal, written, organizational, and analytical skills.

Planning Internship - Monmouth County: The Monmouth County Planning Board Transportation Planning Section is seeking an enthusiastic internship candidate to assist work on exciting county planning projects including analysis for roadway corridor studies, support for Monmouth County’s official transportation advisory committee and development of new transportation maps and guides. Qualifications: Graduate student preferred, but upper-class undergraduate considered. Transportation education and/or experience is preferred but not required; candidates with a strong interest in learning about improving our regional transportation system preferred. Assistant Planner - Hunterdon County: The Hunterdon County Planning Board seeks a full-time Assistant Planner to perform routine professional planning work and related duties involved in the development of master, functional, or project plans. The Assistant Planner will conduct surveys to gather demographic information; organize and prepare information and statistical data; prepare visual aids to use in presenting information to a community; perform preliminary analysis and prepare or assist in preparing reports on planning matters; review, analyze, interpret, and transpose statistical data; prepare maps representing existing and proposed land use and other data for submission or presentation to the state, municipality, or county agencies; design and prepare charts; aid with the work involved in developing local, regional, and state-wide planning projects; perform routine techincal work; interact with the public by providing planning information by telephone or through correspondence using in-house data; and prepare drafts of reports concerning all aspects of planning. The Assistant Planner will also be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units. Position requires a college degree including 21 credits in professional planning disciplines, plus one year of experience in municipal, county, regional, or state planning. Possession of a current, valid license as a Professional Planner in New Jersey issued by the State Board of Professional Planners may be substituted for the education requirement. Senior Planner - Monmouth County: The Monmouth County Planning Board is seeking to hire a Senior Planner to work on a variety of exciting studies and projects within the Transportation Planning Section. The Senior Planner will also serve as a project manager for highway corridor studies, work on the county’s transportation master plan and staff the county’s Transportation Council. Minimum Requirements: A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in planning or a related field; A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in municipal, county, regional or state planning A master’s degree may be substituted for one (1) year of experience. A current, valid license as a Professional Planner issued by the NJ State Board of Professional Planners may be substituted for the education requirement. Senior Freight Transportation Planner - Port Authority of New York and New Jersey: The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is a bistate public agency responsible for promoting regional transportation and commerce, and operating key gateways serving one of the nation’s largest and most diversified markets. The Port Authority’s facilities and services include airports, the marine ports, bridges, tunnels, bus terminals, mass transit systems, and selected real estate development.

The Port Authority seeks a transportation planner with expertise in freight logistics for a newly created group that advances regional goods movement planning initiatives to fulfill the agency’s strategic vision for regional mobility and sustainable development. Manager, Regional Transportation Planning: The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is a bistate public agency operating some of the busiest and most important transportation links in the New York/New Jersey region. We are currently seeking an experienced manager with superior technical expertise in transportation planning to lead the Regional Transportation Planning Division of the agency’s Planning Department. 

The Port Authority is strengthening the capacity of the Planning Department in regional transportation planning, regional transportation policy and coordination, economic analysis, and strategic planning in support of the agency’s mission to improve regional mobility for people and goods, sharpen its economic competitiveness, and promote sustainable development.  The Port Authority is a bistate public agency responsible for many of the busiest and most important trade and transportation links in one of the largest and most diversified metropolitan areas in the United States.  The Port Authority’s facilities and services include airports, marine ports, bridges, tunnels, bus terminals, mass transit systems, and selected real estate development.

The Transportation Planning Manager is responsible for developing and managing the Port Authority’s multi-modal surface transportation planning agenda.  The agenda encompasses interstate transportation needs, port and airport gateway access, and interregional surface transportation by road, rail, and waterways. Specific responsibilities include: crafting a vision for the region’s bistate and gateway transportation networks of the future; addressing more immediate accessibility needs for users of Port Authority facilities; managing staff with in-depth expertise in transportation planning, modeling and ridership forecasting, freight planning, and GIS applications; initiating and overseeing long-range planning studies addressing multi-modal transportation needs of the region that may require the Port Authority’s involvement, leadership, or resources; and providing technical expertise to support Port Authority involvement in interagency transportation planning partnerships. Position Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in transportation planning, transportation engineering, urban planning, or related field. 
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience and successful track record in transportation planning.
  • Outstanding managerial skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of the transportation systems, travel dynamics, demographics, and transportation policy and planning issues of a major metropolitan area or region.
  • Demonstrated expertise and first-hand experience with the application of transportation modeling and ridership forecasting as well as GIS and with the development of long-range transportation needs assessments or plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with peers and representatives of other organizations on large, complex, and multi-disciplinary projects.
