Jersey City, with a population of 242,845, is the county seat of Hudson County. The city boasts extensive transportation and infrastructure, including the Hudson Bergen Light Rail system, the PATH, rail freight facilities, a deepwater port and trucking terminals. Ready access to the New Jersey Turnpike and other major roads also exists.

Jersey City is New Jersey's second-largest city. Home to an ever-expanding commercial and industrial base, the city is an important manufacturing, transportation and shipping hub. With its proximity to Manhattan and an ongoing renaissance of development, the city has developed into a financial and commercial center, highlighted by the burgeoning Hudson River waterfront. Some of the attractions in Jersey City include nearby Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, Liberty State Park and the Liberty Science Center. The city is also home to three colleges.
