Access to transportation impacts lives and personal outcomes on many levels. Insufficient access means people cannot reliably get to work, school, healthcare, social services, or other destinations. Government institutions must work to address the effects of past practices that perpetuated racism and segregation. It’s no longer enough to go through the motions; it’s time for a paradigm shift in which government leaders ask themselves how transportation policies and investments impact the system's most vulnerable travelers. And, decision-making must promote positive change for everyone in every community. The second symposium in our TPA Tuesdays series will feature transportation and planning thought leaders who will explore the issue of advancing equitable transportation systems.
