Grants available for shuttle buses and micromobility programs

The NJTPA is accepting proposals for the FY 2025 Local Mobility Initiatives Program, which is administered in partnership with NJ Transit. The program supports innovative shuttle bus services operated by counties and municipalities and now is adding support for micromobility such as bikes, e-bikes and scooters.

The program makes use of federal Congestion Management Air Quality (CMAQ) funds and aims to reduce congestion and improve air quality. Eligible Activities for shuttle services are operational support and vehicle replacement or purchases; for micromobility projects, eligible activities are purchase of bicycles and scooters and docking purchases for parking and charging

Applications are limited to Transportation Management Associations, municipalities, county transportation systems operators in the NJTPA region, or universities. Proposals are being accepted and reviewed continuously, without deadlines.

In the last round of funding for the program in 2020, the NJTPA Board approved $1.8 million for four projects.

More information and the application are on the CMAQ webpage. NJTPA staff contacts for inquiries: Jasmine Lawrence ([email protected]); Blythe Eaman ([email protected]).
