Local Safety Program

FY2015 Safety Projects

Twenty-two safety projects, ranging from pedestrian improvements in New Jersey’s largest cities to skid-prevention treatments on winding country roads, will advance through this year’s Local Safety and High Risk Rural Roads programs. The NJTPA Board of Trustees approved $31.3 million at its Sept. 8 meeting for the projects, a record high since the inception of the programs a decade ago.

The Local Safety and High Risk Rural Roads programs provide competitive grant funds to counties and cities for high-impact safety improvements that are relatively “quick-fix” in nature and ready for construction.

The Board’s action allocated approximately $18.9 million for Local Safety Program projects that will proceed in fiscal years 2015 and 2016. The funding will support 13 new projects and five continuing projects that were approved in previous years.
