Local Safety Program

FY2022 Safety Projects

The NJTPA Board of Trustees approved 19 projects that will make travel safer for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists throughout the region at its March 13, 2023 meeting.

The projects were approved for grants through the NJTPA’s fiscal year 2022 Local Safety and High Risk Rural Roads programs, which provide federal funds to counties and cities for cost-effective solutions that can make an immediate impact on their target areas.
The Board approved allocating $168.1 million for Local Safety Program projects and nearly $20.1 million for High Risk Rural Roads Program projects. The total $188.3 million  marks a doubling of funding for the programs since the last round of projects in FY 2020.  According to NJTPA Chair John W. Bartlett, a Passaic County Commissioner, this reflects "a highly successful partnerships between the NJTPA and its member county and city governments to deliver vitally important projects on our local roads” .

These grants will fund safety improvement projects in Essex County, Hudson County, Jersey City, Middlesex County, Monmouth County, Morris County, Passaic County, Somerset County and Union County.
