Tools Overview

The NJTPA has developed a number of tools and applications that support its core mission. They include innovative uses of geographical information systems (GIS), mobile technology, transportation models, data visualizations and more. These tools support NJTPA planning activities and the work of partners, including analysis, outreach and visioning that shapes the NJTPA Regional Transportation Plan.

PRIME is an interactive online database that puts the findings of past planning studies at your fingertips, letting you find studies, identified needs, and recommendations relevant to your own work. Users can search by category or geographic location via drop-down menus or a map interface. PRIME helps users see how studies by various agencies are connected and supports collaboration in planning and advancing projects.

Goods Movement Strategies for Communities (GMSC) is an interactive tool that is designed to help address questions and issues regarding the movement goods by truck into, out of, and through your area.

NJ's Transit Friendly Data Application

New Jersey’s Transit Friendly Data Application allows users to map, report, and download a range of land use, travel, public transit, demographic, and real estate development data. The data available in the application are useful to elected officials, community and economic development professionals, real estate developers, land use planners, transit service planners, and others engaged in the land use and transportation planning process.

NJTPA Demographics Resources & Analysis Tool

The NJTPA has created a Demographics Resources website to provide data and guidance to staff, subregions and partners to ensure federally-funded planning activities adhere to Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. The website includes a Demographics Analysis Tool, which displays the spatial distribution of populations who have been identified as protected under federal regulations.

NJTPA Subregional Profiles

The NJTPA has revamped the original County Profile App to utilize Esri's latest platform, ArcGIS Hub. The new site provides an overview of the NJTPA region, as well as demographic data and background for each of the subregions. Links are also available on each of the subregional pages to allow users to go directly to the county or city's website.

Active Transportation Plan Data Viewer

The NJTPA completed its regional Active Transportation Plan (ATP) in 2023 to provide a blueprint for creating a safe, comfortable, and connected network for walking and biking across the region. To support the ATP's implementation, this interactive mapping tool was developed to share data and information from the study, and to help local implementers identify active transportation projects that align with the recommended regional network.

Strategic Highway Safety Plan Data Viewer

This tool combines data from other sources in a map format that aids in crash analysis and project development for all three MPO regions in New Jersey. Data includes fatal and serious injury crashes, high-crash locations and corridors, Federal Highway Administration - Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funded projects and Road Safety Audits. Pedestrian and Vehicle Traffic Counts Viewer

This viewer serves as a compendium of traffic counts collected by the NJTPA. The count data includes counts collected during NJTPA projects and any counts subregional partners have shared with the NJTPA. The database was produced as a recommendation from the Pedestrian Counts Project completed in June 2022.
