The annual New Jersey Transportation Conference and Expo is being held April 30 through May 2. 

The NJTPA will have a booth in the exhibit hall and is participating in several sessions. The Exhibit Hall opens at 3 p.m.

April 30 Sessions

10 a.m. — You’ve Got to Move It! NJTPA-Funded Freight Studies Deliver
This session spotlights examples of freight and goods movement studies completed through the NJTPA’s Subregional Studies Program, including the Hudson County Truck Routes Assessment and Southern Middlesex County Freight Movement Study.

1 p.m. — Enhancing Transportation Safety with Technology
Explore enhancing traffic safety through the implementation of technology-based solutions such as real-time data analytics, nearmiss detection, wrong-way driving detection, connected vehicles, and advanced signal systems. The panelists will discuss projects across the state of New Jersey that are implementing technology-based solutions to reduce crashes and safeguard the well-being of all road users including Atlantic City’s Safe Streets for All and Smart City Transportation Master Plan, Hudson County’s planned advanced traffic signal system, and more.

2:10 p.m. — NJ TRANSIT: Centering Communiites Around Transit: The Transit Village Initiative
The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and NJ TRANSIT spearhead a multi-agency Smart Growth partnership known as the Transit Village Initiative. The Transit Village Initiative creates incentives for municipalities to redevelop or revitalize the areas around transit stations using design standards of transit-oriented development (TOD). There are currently 35 designated Transit Villages. The Transit Friendly Planning Program strengthens the link between public transit and communities served by NJ TRANSIT. The Program provides guidance on planning for transit-friendly communities that are equitable, economically resilient, and environmentally sustainable. The Program partners with New Jersey municipalities to provide local planning technical assistance around transit facilities. Presenters will explain the transit village designation process, technical assistance opportunities, and discuss other program resources that can help communities promote active transportation, local economic growth, placemaking, sustainable design, and efficient circulation that will help encourage residents to use public transit for everyday trips.

4 p.m. — How We Make Complete Streets Happen
The NJTPA has a variety of programs available to help communities advance Complete Streets initiatives. Examples will include the Complete Streets Technical Assistance Program, the Complete Streets Demonstration Library and an example of a recent project in Seaside Heights. In addition, learn about the programs, support, and expertise that Transportation Management Associations bring to the table.
