FY2016-2017 Safety Projects
The North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority Board of Trustees approved 17 projects that will make travel safer for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists throughout the region during its Jan. 11 meeting.
The projects were approved for grants through the NJTPA’s fiscal year 2016 and 2017 Local Safety and High Risk Rural Roads programs, which provide federal funds to counties and cities for high-impact safety improvements, which are relatively “quick-fix” in nature and ready for construction.
The board approved allocating $23.5 million for Local Safety Program projects, $375,000 for a High Risk Rural Roads Program project and $8.5 million for county-wide systemic improvement projects under the Local Safety Program. The $32.4 million in overall funds allocated to these projects marks a new high for the programs.
